As promised, I will focus on landscape shots for the next few postings – unless I manage to do a new shooting, since I have got some new ideas in my mind, but need to find the suiting model for that.
I guess, most of the people visiting South Africa during the next time will only be there for the soccer world championship. They might be trying to see some of the nature as well, but in my impression, driving along the famous garden route will not show you the beauty, this country has to offer.
But when going to Giant’s Castle, which is located in the Drakensberge, KwaZulu Natal, you should not trust in the hiking maps you can buy there. We followed one of the routes described on the map as a 3 hour round trip and had the impression, that a stack of 3 liters of water would be sufficient for the trip.
After walking for some hours, and checking back the topography of what we saw with what had been drawn on the map, we where unable to locate our position on the map. Even though we had followed one sign we had found on a stone next to the path. The 3 hours turned out to be 7 hours. Never the less, we had seen an amazing landscape. This was worth the trouble. But for the next time, we would rather take a GPS with us.
